Typical Class Day
Because children find security in following a predictable routine, a pattern is established for daily activities. This varies from class to class and is posted in each classroom. Teachers may alter the activities as necessary to meet the needs of children, the weather, special projects or field trips.
The following are included in each school day:
FREE PLAY: During this time, children are free to choose from a variety of activities including manipulative materials, blocks, housekeeping, dress-up, building areas, painting, printing, library, etc...
TEACHER-DIRECTED ACTIVITY: During circle time, many important activities are shared: stories, music, hands-on activities. Each month the staff introduces a monthly curriculum including; letters, numbers, colors, shapes and holidays.
PLAYGROUND: Each class has at least one outdoor play period a day, weather permitting. The enclosed playground provides ample space for active running, jumping, climbing and games.
CLEAN UP: The emphasis is on cooperation and actively encourages the participation of every child.
QUIET TIME: A short rest during an active morning is essential for young children. Listening to music or a story helps the children to relax.
The following is a general typical daily class schedule:
7:00 - 9:00 Children may choose from a variety of activities, set out by the teacher
9:00 - 9:30 Breakfast / Bathroom break
9:30 - 9:45 Circle Time/ Story
9:45 - 11:30 Teacher-directed activites followed by Outdoor play (weather permitting)
12:00 - 12:30 Lunch / Bathroom break
12:50 - 2:50 Rest time
3:00 - 3:30 Snack / Bathroom break
3:30 - 6:00 Outdoor play (weather permitting) and/or Free play activities
